I WISH I HAD A RECORD ) RUFE SMITH
This 78 has identical white labels and identical takes of the song
on both sides. It does not seem to be a test pressing, as these are
usually single-sided, and it is not a promo as this was the only one
of the 11 songs Guy recorded for King which was not issued on a
commercial 78. The reason for this double-sided pressing remains a
mystery.

There were no commercially issued 78s equivalent to these promo issues.

Occasionally, if a record company wanted to plug a particular
song, they would issue that song on both sides of a promo so
that the DJs had no choice but to play it. This is the only
instance we know of where this happened with one of Guy's songs,
and it is interesting to note that a "normal" promo of 'The cuff
of my shirt' backed by 'Got a hole in my sweater' also exists.

(Matrix No. OSS-1734) PEGGY LEE : BLUES IN THE NIGHT BENNY GOODMAN
(Matrix No. OSS-1735) GUY MITCHELL: SINGING THE BLUES RAY CONNIFF
This 45 is a radio commercial for recruitment into the U.S. Army,
and the commercially issued OKeh and Columbia recordings are used.
The radio announcer says both these songs come from Columbia's
'Hall of Fame' series which is restricted to million-selling discs.
The Peggy Lee record was made in December 1941 by the Benny Goodman
Sextet with Peggy Lee as the featured singer. The only 'Hall of Fame'
release of this title was on an EP issued in 1958. The release date
of this 45 is therefore an educated guess to coincide with Guy's
'Hall of Fame' EP release of 'Singing the blues' the following year.

This 45 is a radio commercial for recruitment into the U.S. Air Force,
and uses Frank Sinatra's and Guy's commercial recordings of these
songs under licence from Capitol and Columbia.

HOLLYWOOD HOUSE PARTY
This LP presents various Columbia artists in a House
Party setting.
Guy is featured in Mitch Miller's "party". The "guests"
sing their songs informally. Guy accompanies himself on
guitar, with 'Joe'(Joe Antman?) on piano, and The Four
Lads coming in towards the end of the song, harmonising
in the background. The LP was seemingly given free to
Hi-Fi dealers to promote Columbia products, as the back
of the sleeve is filled with photos and details of 15
Columbia Hi-Fi items.
