THESE BOOTS.......

"Just typical of Guy - he would give you the shirt off his back - also his boots"

so quotes Dave Griffith, the previous owner of 'These Boots'. He wore them solid for

 almost 35 years.

Dave was in the US Navy and met Marty Horstman, Guy's Manager, in 1960.

Marty became Dave's Manager, and Dave recorded several tracks with Joe Meek ("Telstar"),

and also with Wally Ridley at the Abbey Road studios.

Marty said that Dave had the same "pipes" as Guy, and Dave rehearsed continuously

 to Guy's records.

Dave and Marty went to see Guy give a show at an American Airbase in the UK.

Guy pulled Dave up onto the stage and they sang "Red Feathers" together.

Typical of Guy he stopped the song halfway through and yelled to the crowd:-

" - he knows the words better than me!"

Guy had several pairs of boots made by the famous Cowboy Boot Maker - Tony Lama of

 El Paso Texas.

When Guy was leaving for home again he gave these two pairs to Dave via Marty.

Unfortunately for Dave he was trying to break into the music scene when The Beatles

and Rock and Roll were the 'in-thing'.

But to quote Dave - "what wonderful opportunities I had, thanks to Marty Horstman"

Marty once told Dave:- I can watch Guy do shows over and over again. He is the only

artist I have seen in my entire life, whom I never get tired of watching".

 What a Tribute!!!

Sincere thanks to Dave Griffith for sharing the above memories.
